Job Description / Duties
To advance the Division of Students' vision as â??Partners in Student Success', the Assistant Director, Student Support & Advising (SSA) leads a team of Advisors and the delivery of student-facing services, that are exceptional, student-centered and responsive to the needs of York University's diverse student population.The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) provides services to all York prospective and current students supporting their interest in the institution, through recruitment, admissions, all registrarial functions, grades, academic standing, financial aid support, student services, student systems through to graduation. The OUR has a unique opportunity to provide high level, student-centered service from a student's first interaction with the University through every step to graduation.Under the direction of the Director, SSA, the Assistant Director, SSA will be accountable for the success of unit specific strategies, operations, and work processes. This position will lead the team of Student Success Advisors and contribute towards establishing and reinforcing cultural change for a new service delivery model in the unit. As a key collaborator and partner, the Assistant Director, SSA will build strong relationships to ensure service delivery aligns with service processing within partner units of the OUR including Student Financial Services, Student Records & Scheduling, Student Recruitment & Admissions, and Student Systems, as well as with services delivered by other teams from across the University. The Assistant Director, SSA requires a student-focused professional who shares and lives the divisional values of Courage, Connection and Empathy. The Assistant Director, SSA works in close collaboration with students, student groups, faculty and staff within academic units, colleges and across the University to provide an excellent service advising experience for all students
Qualifications / Required Skills
Education:
Graduate degree in Education, Adult Education, Higher Education, Psychology, Student Development, Counselling or other directly relevant field, or an equivalent of an Undergraduate Degree in a field reflected above plus two years recent related experience. Graduate degree is preferred.
Experience:
- 7 years minimum related experience in a post-secondary education environment, preferably in a student service area with extensive experience interpreting, applying and advising on policies and procedures.
- Program Management experience in one of the following areas preferred: student records, registration, student recruitment, admissions, and/or student financial support.
- Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience with work process review, technology implementation and project management.
Skills:
Knowledge
- A thorough understanding of University regulations, policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of OSAP policies, procedures, and its related programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research pertaining to student service advising, student success, and EDI.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Appreciative Advising model and its application in the delivery of student advising practice.
- Understanding and aptitude of admissions and recruitment tactics as led by leading practices and the Student Recruitment & Admissions team.

Salary: $93,548 - $101,555
