Welcome to Thunder Bay
Located on the banks of the majestic Lake Superior, and underneath the shadow of the Sleeping Giant, Thunder Bay, Ontario provides an excellent place to work, learn, and play in all seasons. On the historical lands of the Anishnaabe peoples, and a neighbour to the Fort William First Nation, signatory of Robinson-Superior Treaty of 1850, the city of Thunder Bay has become an integral northern hub for arts, culture, and history.
The city of Thunder Bay was formed by the amalgamation of two original port cities, Port Arthur and Fort William and in 2020 the city will be celebrating it's 50th anniversary. While visiting the city you can explore our two unique downtown cores in the north end and in the south end of the city. The restaurants, and the shops will help you find a unique perspective and historical culture unique to the Thunder Bay region.
While enjoying your stay, don't forget to try out some unique Thunder Bay features defined by our heritage, snack on a baked persian while sitting in a public sauna, or maybe hike to the top of the Hill St. lookout to watch the sunset over the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior. The opportunities are limitless.
