Job Description / Duties

Responsibilities
• Advise full-time and part-time students of funding opportunities (government funding, scholarships and bursaries)
• Provide detailed and accurate advising to students in a courteous and professional manner related to financial aid through multiple mediums including e-mail, phone and in-person
• Maintain a close professional relationship with government funding agencies
• Update office procedures when provincial, federal loan policies, procedures or guidelines change
• Interpret government funding decisions and assessment information for students
• Provide students with scholarship information including guidelines for eligibility, completion of application and deadlines
• Be familiar with the Alberta Works program and assist with data entry
• Confirm eligibility for funding and maintain records for the area
• Involved in developing and delivering Financial Aid Workshops at MRU events

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications
• 3 – 4 year Bachelor’s degree in combination with 18-24 months of experience in a service environment, preferably in a post-secondary student service setting (an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered)
• Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office (especially Work and Excel)
• Demonstrates a strong aptitude for accuracy, organizational abilities, and investigative skills
• Strong customer services skills supplemented by strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

Salary: $2097.92 Semi-monthly

About the Role
Reporting to the Coordinator, Student Awards in the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office, the Student Awards Advisor ensures that students receive timely and comprehensive financial aid advice, which requires a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. This position is the first point of contact for student inquires and is a vital link between students and government funding agencies. The Student Awards Advisor requires an extensive knowledge of policies, procedures and guidelines as they relate to the government student loan programs.
