Job Description / Duties
BCIT’s Student Financial Aid and Awards is looking for a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Financial Aid and Awards Advisor to assist with the delivery of programs & services designed to reduce financial barriers for BCIT students, such as: BCIT Student Awards programs; StudentAid BC programs; Adult Upgrading Grant; Out-of-Province assistance; Emergency Loans and Fee Deferrals; and general budgeting and connection with institutional and community resources.
Duties will include advising students on all types of student financial assistance on both a one-to-one and group basis. It will also include adjudicating achievement-based and need-based awards. The Advisor will play an important role in working with colleagues to ensure the department achieves its stated goals and outcomes related to supporting student success.
Qualifications / Required Skills
A minimum of two years’ experience in a BC public post-secondary student services role with a focus on advising, student engagement and facilitation. Financial aid and/or awards office experience at the Advisor or Administrator level is an asset.
Two-year, full-time post-secondary diploma, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. An undergraduate degree from a recognized institution is preferred.
Experience with computerized student services systems required
Detail-oriented, with the ability to interpret and apply complex policies and guidelines
Superior time management and organizational skills, with a proven track record of meeting tight deadlines
Ability to work under pressure and multi-task in a high volume, high stress office environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, and proven experience as an effective team member
Strong analytical, problem-solving and needs analysis skills required
Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity and inclusion, and experience supporting students from equity-seeking backgrounds
Experience with computerized student record systems, such as Banner is an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word and Excel, collaboration tools such as OneDrive, as well as database software

Salary: Salary Range: $59,609 - $71,086 per annum
