Job Description / Duties

BCIT is looking for a highly accurate and detail-oriented regular, full-time Financial Aid and Awards Assistant to provide support services to the Student Financial Aid and Awards department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Answering and analyzing routine, non-routine and technical financial aid and awards inquiries in-person, on the telephone and via e-mail.
 Assisting students in completing both full-time and part-time financial aid applications.
 Verifying enrolment prior to release of government student loan/grant funding.
 Identifying and processing student withdrawals and cancellations.
 Assisting in the awards component of the department.
 Undertaking other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS*:
 Grade 12, plus completion of six months of post-secondary training in office automation/administration and/or business.
 Two years of general experience, plus one year of experience in a similar position in a high-volume, high-stress environment, preferably in a post-secondary financial aid office in B.C.
 An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
 Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.
 Superior interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality, work effectively as part of a team and deal with conflict using tact and discretion.
 Must be customer service and detail-oriented, self-directed, responsible, dependable, and be able to work with minimal supervision.
 Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight timelines, while remaining flexible.
 Accurate keyboarding skills of 60 wpm.
 Demonstrated ability to problem solve, think critically, find alternate solutions, make decisions and prioritize while handling a great variety of tasks efficiently and simultaneously.
 Microsoft Office at an intermediate level with proven proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.
 Familiarity with a variety of software programs such as Banner, SFAS and internet web browsers.
 Knowledge of BCIT programs, policies and procedures.
*Please note: These are the minimum required qualifications. This position is a dayshift position as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement.

START DATE: June 3, 2019
SALARY RANGE: Pay Grade 5; $44,100 with yearly increments to $47,568 per annum.
