Job Description / Duties
The Associate Director, Financial Aid is an experienced student financial aid professional that manages the University’s administration of government financial aid programs, especially the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), as well as the awarding of funds for the University of Toronto Advanced Planning for Students (UTAPS) program. Under the direction of the Associate Registrar & Director, Financial Aid and Awards, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Developing strategies, policies and procedures consistent with the University’s goals – and, where appropriate, government’s requirements - for the administration and awarding of financial aid;
Analyzing and interpreting policy relating to financial aid; maintaining ongoing contact with provincial and federal government student aid officials to ensure that the University has appropriate input into policy design;
Providing advice and support to senior University administrators with respect to government aid programs;
Ensuring all communication relating to financial aid available to University students is up to date and relevant to the specific audience;
Giving presentations and seminars related to financial aid to various audiences, including students, their parents and student services staff;
Managing a staff complement of approximately 12 permanent and 10 seasonal reports.
Qualifications / Required Skills
EDUCATION: A university degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required, as is excellent communication, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated leadership ability.
EXPEREINCE: A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in financial aid or student services, with demonstrated managerial skills in a unionized environment; extensive and comprehensive knowledge of financial aid programs, especially OSAP.
SKILLS: Knowledge of finance/financial management and data management; Strong knowledge of University of Toronto programs requirements and of the overall university structure; Superior written and oral communication skills; Project management experience; Experience in public speaking; Ability to handle matters of a sensitive and confidential nature; Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and develop good working relationships; High degree of computer literacy, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and data management programs; Familiarity with ROSI and AMS systems an asset; Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail; Sound judgement and the ability to exercise tact and discretion; Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team setting and to exercise a high degree of flexibility.
