Job Description / Duties
Responds to inquiries regarding the full range of student financial support options received from prospective students, parents, school counsellors, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, community members and external partners.
Outlines and interprets criteria and application procedures for all awards and financial aid programs and provides information and guidance.
Refers students to other departments, such as Accessibility Services, Counselling, Academic Advising and Aboriginal Student Services.
Prepares mail and email correspondence to students, UW departments and off-campus partners.
Represents the Awards Office at various annual events and leads group presentations and workshops on awards and student aid related topics.
Is a signing authority for provincial and federal student aid programs, as well as US loans (FAFSA).
Authorizes applications, tracks documentation, monitors student status, and confirms enrolment for provincial and federal student aid using various types of software applications.
Maintains current knowledge of all policies and procedures relating to Canadian and US government student loans, grants and bursaries.
Processes award payments from external agencies; prepares various reports and invoices to request payment.
Reviews, maintains, and updates print and online communications to students and the public; this includes administrator access to the online awards system (BAMS) and department webpages.
Performs a wide-range of tasks using BAMS, Colleague, Excel as well as with other student aid and UW-specific software applications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Undergraduate degree, diploma, certificate, or equivalent post-secondary education is required.
1+ years of related administrative experience is required, preferably in a post-secondary administrative environment.
Knowledge of university regulations, programs and policies as they relate to academic and non-academic departments is preferred.
Either professionally or as a student, knowledge and/or experience with UWinnipeg’s annual awards program and government student aid is preferred.
Skills and experience with public speaking is required; experience developing and delivering student workshops and presentations is preferred.
Experience with Ellucian Colleague, Blackbaud Awards Management System (formerly AcademicWorks) or other UWinnipeg software is preferred; experience with student information and records systems from other institutions is an asset.
Basic skills with MS Office applications is required; advanced skills, particularly with Excel, would be an asset.
Knowledge of student development theory and current best-practices in student services is preferred.
General or specific knowledge of UWinnipeg’s degree programs and requirements is preferred.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills when working with students, faculty and UW staff. Tact, diplomacy and a student-centred approach is required.
Must have superior organizational skills and be able to track competing tasks and timelines.
Ability to establish positive relationships with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Be able to perform tasks despite regular interruptions and changing priorities.
Other:
Must be able to work remotely/from home as part of a rotating department schedule.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Condition(s) of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Must be willing to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as schedules demands.

Salary: $44,844.80 - $59,441.20
