Student Financial Support (SFS) at the University of Alberta is dedicated to assisting undergraduate students in achieving their academic and developmental goals by helping them access the financial supports they need. Housed within the Office of the Registrar, SFS is committed to fostering a student first approach. As part of its mandate the SFS unit is responsible for ensuring the implementation of financial support programs including awards, bursaries, loans, and financial literacy. Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, SFS, the Team Lead is a critical member of the SFS leadership team and works to establish and support a dynamic work environment, manage key processes and workflow and identify opportunities for improvement. The Team Lead must collaborate, innovate, and effectively build relationships with staff and stakeholders in support of the execution of the financial support strategy.
Duties
• Coordinates the administration of office tasks including hiring, training, coaching, and performance appraisals of all support staff; delegates tasks and responsibilities and the provision of managerial support to unit staff
• Works to promote collaborative relationships with faculty, department offices and external stakeholders (Faculties, Office of Advancement, Financial Services, Student Aid Alberta, etc.) in the interest of providing effective and efficient service
Organizes and coordinates projects assigned by the Assistant Registrar, such as program reviews or research assignments for specific problems
• Responsible for the day-to-day activities of the unit
In consultation with the Assistant Registrar, establishes both immediate and long-term goals for the unit
Interprets established policies and makes recommendations for new policies and changes to existing policies
• Develops selection procedures for awards and bursaries and advises stakeholders on selection requirements, policies, procedures and aids in the transition of procedures as needed
Working with a Financial Analyst, determines spending levels and aligns award and bursary values with program and University strategies
• Monitors expenditures and authorizes payments, preparing statistical analysis, financial reports, and all relevant documentation; ensures funds are allocated to correct accounts and arranges for payments to be made to recipients
Coordinates selection committees; serves as a member, advisor or facilitator
• Promotes financial support programs via high school visits, on campus information sessions, mail outs, website, promotional materials and special events
Acts as the Assistant Registrar, SFS in his/her absence
Qualifications / Required Skills
Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of directly related experience required, preferably in a University financial support office or similar setting
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures, especially in the area of Student Financial Support is required
• Ability to think and act independently
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and public speaking skills
• Organization skills and the ability to meet multiple deadlines in stressful situations
• Demonstrated supervisory skills
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Training/professional development in: administration of scholarships and financial aid programs; and, updates on software, student records database, and financial databases

Salary: $57,244 to $79,227
