Job Description / Duties

Financial Aid Officers (FAOs) educate, advise and facilitate the provision of financial resources to current and potential students to remove financial barriers, award financial incentives and provide financial knowledge that supports students on their educational journey at Northern Lights College.

The Financial Aid Officer Lead is an important member of the FAO team. On this team, you provide information and guidance to new and returning students (and their supporters) about budgeting; student financial assistance programs (including loans, awards, and grants); funding eligibility and selection criteria; and student loan repayment options. You also support the administration of government student financial assistance programs, institutional awards and scholarships, emergency aid programs, and financial literacy outreach strategies.

As the Financial Aid Officer Lead, you also coordinate the operations of the FAO team, providing mentorship, policy interpretation and training to FAOs and coordinating schedules and service assignments. You ensure that College, provincial, and federal regulations related to student financial assistance programs are being adhered to and are the designated point of contact with Ministry officials for policy interpretation and system account management. You also develop and submit the Institutional Appendix.

Under the guidance of the Associate Registrar, this position also coordinates the development, implementation, and delivery of financial literacy activities and financial assistance information sessions to support students on their educational journey at NLC.

Qualifications / Required Skills

- Successful completion of a two-year diploma in a related field, such as advising or business management (or equivalent).
- One-year related experience in financial aid or related policy-intensive setting, with significant student or client contact.
- Experience and intermediate proficiency with a current version of MS Office Suite (excel, word, outlook, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently or as a team while managing multiple demands with varying deadlines.
- Demonstrated strength in analytical reasoning and problem solving.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, and sensitivity is essential.
- Current and valid driver's license (some travel may be necessary).
- The successful candidate must successfully complete a comprehensive clerical test.

Additional Information

This position is based in Dawson Creek, BC and leads a team of Financial Aid Officers located throughout the region, including those based in Fort St John, Chetwynd, and Fort Nelson.

Salary: Classification 14 ($48,629.36 - $50,133.36 annually)
