Job Description / Duties
The Student Funding & Awards Manager plays a key leadership role within the Division of Student Services and is responsible for managing the operations of the Student Funding & Awards department, which consists of four specialized areas: student funding, scholarships and awards, Alberta Works, and government funding.
This position is accountable for preparing and executing the department's operational plans, which supports the Division's strategic goals around student recruitment, enrolment and retention. A significant responsibility for the incumbent is to manage the relationship with funding agencies and the government to secure student access to funding and awards opportunities. This position creates and maintains policies and processes that are compliant with legislative and reporting requirements. The Student Funding & Awards Manager is also accountable for leading and managing staff, which includes recruitment, development and overall performance management.
The duties of this position require extensive knowledge of the post-secondary environment and student funding and awards. A collaborative approach is required to facilitate consistency of service to students across the Division and the institution and to maintain positive internal and external relationships.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Four (4) year undergraduate degree required
Three to five years experience working in a Post-Secondary Institution and supervising staff
Three to five years' experience in Student Funding and Awards role
Experience with implementing change process
Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
Experience with technology and the role it can or could play in Student Funding and Awards
Oral Communication- Expressing oneself effectively and convincingly when speaking with
individuals and groups in a formal or informal setting
Strong interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication (verbal & written) skills
The ability to interact effectively and sensitively with a wide variety of people with diverse professional and technical backgrounds
Written Communication Skills - Conveying information accurately in an appropriate written format; expressing oneself effectively in writing
Analytical Skills - Collecting, comparing and relating data from different sources; identifying issues; anticipating problems
Consultative Skills - Giving effective professional advice to meet the identified needs of the client/customer
Cross functional team management and facilitation skills
Proven tolerance to stress: ability to function effectively in a demanding, deadline oriented, and constantly changing work environment
Strong analysis and problem solving abilities
Sensitivity to diversity of population
Experience with oral presentations to large and small audiences
