Job Description / Duties

Job Summary:
Responsible for the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of all institutional need-based student aid programs and services, financial literacy educational programming, as well as the administration of Canadian and U.S. government student financial assistance programs. Manages professional staff and client services operations, to deliver administrative efficiencies, sound oversight and service excellence.

Primary Responsibilities:
•Support the development of an innovative, enterprising and effective Student Financial Aid strategy in support of student recruitment and retention, and deliver on the operational plans for all student constituencies including Quebec, Rest of Canada, U.S. and International.
•Build, motivate and lead an effective Student Aid advising team; identify and develop a portfolio of activities to maximize service excellence for current and future initiatives.
•Develop student needs assessment framework for packaging financial aid including cost of attendance, bursaries and loans, fee deferrals and work-study opportunities. Partner with colleagues across campus responsible for awards and academic curricula to optimize availability of funding for undergraduate students.
•Develop and manage efficient, effective and compliant administration of 14 jurisdictions of federal and provincial student financial assistance, including the U.S. Direct Loan Program.
•Identify opportunities/impact of University policies and curricula on government and external funding agencies; ensure unit’s student aid policies are duly aligned in order to optimise the University’s student support funds.
•Oversee development and deployment of Financial Literacy educational programming for students, ensuring evolving content based on research, literature and best practices.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education/Experience:
Undergraduate Degree.
Five (5) years' related experience.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Financial, yield and trend forecasting, as well as needs analysis. Strong analytical, investigative and project management skills including ability to interpret & translate business needs into application and operational requirements. Facility with Banner Student Aid and self-service, Finance and Student Information System, as well as reporting tools. Demonstrated experience and ease with new technological applications, with ability to provide business expertise to a portfolio of complex and integrated specialized software. One-on-one student counseling with the ability to adjudicate financial aid decisions and appeals. Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details and distinguish user requests from true needs. Ability to initiate and effect innovation and change in a very complex and fast paced environment. Engaging presentation skills with the ability to craft content and facilitate workshops. Ability to prioritize and engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously. Knowledge of University IT policies and practices. High level of interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills. Approachable and resourceful under pressure. Ability to deal with confidential information with discretion. Ability to design and execute training and communication initiatives through both formal and informal training programs. Ability to represent the unit to overall University community, to facilitate team and client meetings, and to deliver informative, well-organized presentations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French.

Additional Information

33.75 hours/week; overtime may be required during peak periods

Salary: Range: $65,700 - $87,600 (midpoint) - $113,900
