Job Description / Duties
The Manager, Student Awards and Financial Assistance is responsible for the supervision and delivery of Student Awards and Financial Assistance services for the University. The Manager provides leadership for Student Awards and Financial Assistance including hiring, evaluating and motivating staff for successful performance of their duties, ensuring the performance of individual staff members satisfies required standards and taking appropriate measures as required. The Manager acts as KPU’s principal contact for provincial, federal and American student loan authorities and is responsible for the administration of over $20 million annually of government financial assistance to KPU students. The Manager is also responsible for the administration of over $2 million annually in institutional and donor-funded awards for KPU students.
Qualifications / Required Skills
A Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline (Master’s Degree preferred) and a minimum 5 years’ experience in a post-secondary student services environment with 3-5 years of increasing responsibility, including the supervision and management of staff.
Outstanding presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated understanding of student financial assistance and awards issues, programs, processes and concepts within the Canadian post-secondary context.
Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
In-depth knowledge of Canadian post-secondary education systems.
Proven track record of effective team management and implementing change resulting in improvements to service quality, staff productivity and systems efficiency.
Sound understanding of strategic enrolment management concepts, academic policies and processes that contribute to a quality undergraduate experience.
Proven ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
Experience managing multiple projects within a rapidly changing environment.
Successful experience training and managing staff.
Excellent personal computer skills including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and database software such as Access.
Intermediate knowledge of Banner (Student) or other similar student information system.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Frequent inter-campus travel is required.
Salary: $58,900 - $68,300/year
