Job Description / Duties

One of the primary roles of this position is to assist students in identifying, accessing and qualifying for the many forms of financial aid available to them. This position manages the bursary budget, the scholarship budget, and an emergency loan program. The incumbent must be knowledgeable about complex student loan programs (Canadian and American), as well as specialized programs supporting individuals who experience challenges or barriers to attaining secondary education (e.g. People with Disabilities, Aboriginal students, mature students). The incumbent will deliver workshops to groups and advise individual students on financial management strategies, budgeting, as well as various aid programs.
Additional responsibilities include:

• Looks for new and innovative ways to utilize the bursary funds.
• Keeps abreast of developments in the ever-changing world of student loans and provide up-to-date information as well as advising and assistance to students.
• Acts as Destination Point Administrator for the U.S. Department of Education Student loan program.
• Develop, manage, and maintain scholarship policies, procedures and operations to ensure appropriate disbursement and fiscal accountability.
• Promote the scholarship program in order to increase the number of scholarship applications and scholarship offers.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful applicant will have an undergrad degree and three years’ experience in a related field. This position is complex and requires experience in providing guidance to students, and in managing multiple, competing tasks. The successful applicant will have demonstrated financial management experience related to student financial records and student financial aid, and understanding of government student loan policies, processes and accountabilities. The incumbent will also have demonstrated understanding of the legislation and compliance of Canada student loan programs. Also required are exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills, strong listening and communication skills, strong time management skills, and the ability to follow up on tasks and report progress. Strong computer proficiency is also required. Membership in professional associations such as the Canadian Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, or the Regional Financial Aid Administrators is considered an asset.

Salary: $49,423 per annum (Range: $49,423 - $60,131)
