Job Description / Duties
As a key member of the Registrar’s Office staff, the financial aid and awards counsellor plays an integral role in providing appropriate financial guidance to help make post-secondary education attainable for all qualified applicants. They also ensure financial aid programs facilitate the University’s enrolment and access goals and policies while enhancing the enrolment, success, and retention of Mount Allison’s students. The financial aid and awards counsellor is responsible for oversight of the scholarship and awards budget, ensuring that the intent of donor contributions are upheld, and providing guidance to University officers, office staff, and students on the interpretation of policies, data, and regulations pertaining to internal and external financial aid and scholarship programs. Qualifications / Required Skills
The successful candidate will have a bachelor degree and two to three years of experience in financial aid administration in a higher education setting. Demonstrated knowledge of federal, provincial, and U.S. financial aid programs and familiarity with Canadian post-secondary education systems is required. The candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills with strong intercultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication skills and a commitment to a “student-centred” ethic that requires a high level of confidentiality. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with students, faculty, staff, and the public and ability to exercise judgment and work independently with minimal supervision are required. The candidate should have strong organizational abilities to manage multiple projects and changing priorities to meet deadlines. Proven analytic ability to collect and interpret statistical and qualitative data for problem solving and forecasting is required. The candidate should have strong leadership and teamwork skills in a work environment that requires proactive and creative approaches to problem solving. Excellent computer skills using MS Office platforms and experience with Ellucian Colleague or other comparable integrated student information system is required along with the ability and willingness to work flexible hours during the peak periods in the scholarship and awards cycles.
